La representación territorial ha sido históricamente un instrumento clave para el conocimiento, la administración y la construcción simbólica de un estado-nación. En este contexto, los atlas han asumido un rol central como dispositivos de ordenamiento del espacio. Al sintetizar información geográfica, económica y social, orientan tanto la planificación gubernamental como la comprensión general del territorio por parte de la ciudadanía. No obstante, estas representaciones suelen estar mediadas por criterios técnicos y funcionales que tienden a invisibilizar ciertas realidades y a privilegiar visiones homogéneas del país.

En respuesta a estas limitaciones, el Atlas de la historia abstracta y subjetiva de Chile se propone como una alternativa que busca documentar y visibilizar aquellas dimensiones humanas, simbólicas y culturales que escapan a los registros convencionales. Este proyecto forma parte de la premisa de que el territorio no es solo un espacio físico, sino un entramado de memorias, afectos e identidades que configuran la riqueza y complejidad de la nación. Es también un compendio del conocimiento sobre el territorio, las modificaciones que la actividad humana ha producido en él y las relaciones entre la inteligencia, la voluntad y la naturaleza. Es, en definitiva, un espejo del país.     
 
Este proyecto fue realizado durante los años 2009 al 2025, está inspirado en el Atlas de Chile de Claudio Gay y busca contribuir al conocimiento geográfico de Chile, añadiendo imágenes de lugares que tienen algún mérito histórico, ya sea por sus acontecimientos sociales, políticos o por sus accidentes naturales.​

Territorial representation has historically been a key instrument for the knowledge, administration, and symbolic construction of a nation-state. In this context, atlases have assumed a central role as devices for the organization of space. By synthesizing geographic, economic, and social information, they guide both governmental planning and the general public’s understanding of the territory. However, these representations are often mediated by technical and functional criteria that tend to obscure certain realities and privilege homogeneous visions of the country.

In response to these limitations, the Atlas of the Abstract and Subjective History of Chile presents itself as an alternative that seeks to document and make visible those human, symbolic, and cultural dimensions that escape conventional records. This project is grounded in the premise that territory is not merely a physical space, but a fabric of memories, emotions, and identities that shape the richness and complexity of the nation. It is also a compendium of knowledge about the land, the changes brought about by human activity, and the relationships between intelligence, will, and nature. It is, ultimately, a mirror of the country.

This project was carried out between 2009 and 2025. It is inspired by Claudio Gay’s Atlas of Chile and aims to contribute to the geographic knowledge of the country by adding images of places with historical significance—whether due to social and political events or natural phenomena.
